Balance in all things

If you read my Craving Confessions post you know how much I was craving indulgence yesterday. As a result of said craving, last night I baked the most indulgent chocolate tarts.

Sometimes pairing a piece of chocolate with nut butter is not enough to satisfy me. (Let’s be honest, when is it?) Sometimes I need a layer of creamy chocolate ganache poured over a crunchy almond base and I. Need. It. Now. As with any lifestyle or diet, balance and moderation pretty much sum up my approach. I love roasted broccoli, Brussels sprouts (yes I had to look up whether or not to capitalize the B), seaweed salad, and kombucha, but I also love cake, candy, and crispy potatoes. So I eat it all. I’m not sure if this is the “right” or “wrong” way to approach building a balanced diet. But, it works for me right now, so it’s right for me.

I once had a medical professional suggest that a sweet gummy multivitamin taken daily could be enough of a treat to calm the raging chocolate monster inside of me. I smiled and thanked her for her suggestion, but I have to admit that I never took her up on her advice. What I did do was go out and buy – and thoroughly enjoy taking – those gummy vitamins. You know the kind. The ones shaped like berries or bears but that are still for adults somehow. Those. What I did not stop doing was eating dessert every single day.

As I move into the second half of this vegan month, this is the theme I plan to keep in mind: Balance. I want to eat lots of fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, but I also want to indulge in pasta, chocolate, and cookies. Balance in all things, friends. Balance in all things.
